Early Years of Beekeeping

The fascinating but unusual interest of keeping bees brings the crowds

My parents are social and enjoy have guests over to entertain. With the unusual interest, inevitably the conversation would change to questions about bees and beekeeping. If people were interested I would offer to show them inside the hive, provided they felt comfortable with this.

I concluded though, was it my parents or the beekeeper that provided the entertainment?

Friends and bees

The photo above show family members and friends peering into my colony in Putaruru, New Zealand.

This treasured photo shows my Grandma gingerly approving of my bees!

The first part to my empire, I had split the first hive to created baby beehives (nucs).
