Early Years of Beekeeping

Extracting in Dad's Workshop

Frames of honey to the extractor

Uncapping honey frames

We lived in a 2 storey house occupying the 2nd level, while the basement contained the garage and workshop areas. For three years I robbed my hives bringing the honey home to be extracted in Dad's basement.

The setup provided a great compromise to Mums kitchen, but during one season some uninvited guests (robber bees) found their new supply of free unguarded honey and I had a robbing bee frenzy on my hands. One bee stung my sister on her face.

The photos show the uncapping (steam) and extracting of frames that contained clover honey.
